Top team

Hi everyone, welcome to my blog today I am going to be talking about top team. On Friday the Kaupeka hub went to top team. Top team is when you get in to groups and you do different activities that the top team had set up. There was 12 activities and 12 groups. All of the activity's involved communication, collaboration, team work and being kind. In the activity's we had water, blocks, puzzles, platforms, teams and so much more. My favourite part was the water bus activity when you had to pass the basket to the next person.

Have you done top team before?

Reading Create task

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking about my reading create task. For our create task we read a poem called at the end of the driveway. We had to write a poem about a new beginning. We also had to do show not tell so the person reading has to guess what I am writing about. Here is my poem

I opened the door and the new year had begun
And I knew this new year would be fun

They opened the gates and now I could see
All my classmates

I see my friends and as they smile
I remembered that I haven't seen them in awhile

As I see everyone with their paper and pen
I knew that we were writing again

The bell rings and the time has come
To go outside and have some fun.

Have you written a poem like this before?

Tough kids

Hi everyone welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking about tough kids. On Wednesday the Kaupeka hub went to tough kids and we could dress up and we had to wear mufti to go through the coarse. Tough kids is a coarse with ropes, water, bridges, inflatables, mud and a whole lot more. Tough kids was made after the 2011 earthquakes to help young kids like me to recover all of the earthquakes and have fun. There was a lot of schools there and the run was 2.5km and I ran with my friends and we dressed up. My favorite obstacle was the slip n slide because there was soap and water and it was so fun.

Have you done tough kids before?

Sport rotations

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking about sport rotations. Every Thursday we have sport rotations and there is korfball, lawn bowls, cricket and soft ball. For the first rotation I went to cricket and we got into to two teams and one team was fielding and one team was batting. Then we did korfball and its like basketball and netball but there is new rules every round. Then I did lawn bowls and it's when you have to roll the lawn bowls and you have to either get the other balls out or roll the ball into the middle. I haven't done softball yet but I'm doing it this week and I am very excited. My favorite sport was probably korfball because you could use the most energy and adding the new rules in was really fun.

Have you played korfball before?

We talked about how we feel about social media and how you see people and you really wanna be like them when you see there photo. Or about how many people like they get on there posts and they have the perfect face and the perfect body but really they might use Photoshop or make up and hair stylists but really we are all the same.

Reading create task

Hi everyone welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking about my reading create task. Today my reading create task is about Colombian Christmas, and I had to write what I already know about Colombian Christmas. This is what I already know I think that Christmas in Colombia is very festive and they get all ready for the holiday at the start of December they start their festivals and Christmas is a lot bigger their but not here in New Zealand. This is what I read about and now hat I know In Colombia, 90% of the population is christen because most people are roman catholic so that means that most of them celebrate Christmas.. The festival starts on the 7th of December and goes till Christmas. They play Christmas Colombian songs and they have food and lanterns and so much more. The cities light up the skies with lanterns and candles and fireworks. The Christmas period is the longest Christmas in the world. They put their decorations up in the early November. The families meet up to have songs and prayer and they sing.

What have you learned about Colombian Christmas?

Writing

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking to you about my information report plan. For this week we had to do a plan for our information report and we had to do it about a country and I chose America. I chose America because I have never been there and I want to know more about it. To do my plan I had to do some research for population, demographics, sport, dance, history, food, economy and heaps more.

What country would you choose?

Recipe

Hi everyone welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking about my recipe for Argentina. On Friday we have a shared lunch and I had to make something for my country that I picked out of a hat, I got Argentina out of the hat. I decided to make truffles and here is my recipe.
 Truffles:
Ingredients:
  • 250g plain sweet biscuits ( Arnotts marie biscuits )
  • ½ a cup of desiccated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa
  • 340g of condensed milk ( Nestle sweetened condensed milk )
Topping - ¾ of fine desiccated coconut

Instructions:
Crush the biscuits in a food processor until its fine ( like flour ).

Combine into a large bowl, the crush biscuits and ½ a cup of desiccated coconut, then add 2 tablespoons of cocoa then mix the ingredients well.

Then slowly stir in the condensed milk into the mixture, (Don’t pour the whole can of condensed milk because you might only need 340g of the can.

You know you have the mixture right because you can make dough balls with the mixture, ( if the dough balls aren't working then you may have added too much condensed milk). You should be able to roll the mixture in a ball and try not to make it too hard or too soft.

Put ¾ of a cup of desiccated coconut onto a plate, simply roll the ball into the desiccated coconut until most of the ball is covered in coconut.

Then put the truffles in the container and keep in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 hours.

Now have an enjoyable snack with your friends and family.

Have you ever made truffles?

Camp

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog today I am going to be talking about year 7&8 camp. Week 3 Kaupeka hub went to camp, and we had to go on the tramp to camp which took 3 hours and on the way up it was really hard but on the way down it was really steep.
What I found challenging...
I found coasteering a little bit challenging because we had to get up at 8am to go coasteering and the water was freezing. We had to jump off these rocks the first three were quite small but when we jumped in from the rocks you had to jump further otherwise you would hit the rocks underneath. I found it challenging because there was this big high rock and I am scared of heights so I decided to jump off the 10 meter one. It was so worth it because it was really fun.
What I learnt...
I learnt how to do a lot of things at camp like... belay in high ropes when you had to hold the person up when they were climbing up the high ropes there had to be three people and the bottom one in charge so they don't fall, one pulling the rope through and one grabbing the rope. In search and rescue I learnt how to build a stretcher so you grab to rain coats and pull the sleeves through the bottom and put them on the two long thick sticks. In outdoor living I learnt how to make a fire so you get dry sticks because the wet sticks won't work because they will make the fire wet and it won't work, then get some Vaseline and a cotton ball and stack the sticks up and then put the cotton ball in the middle and with Vaseline on it and lite it with matches.
What I enjoyed the most...
I enjoyed kayaking the most because we did so many fun challenges and it was fun to do kayak doubles with a buddy, I enjoyed going through the caves because we got to look at what kind of rock there was in them because so many years ago we had volcanoes and they dried up to rock and we were learning about volcanoes. Then we saw jellyfish in the sea and there was so many and it was so cool. Overall I really enjoyed kayaking because I learnt a lot and it was fun to know how to kayak.
What I am grateful for...
I am grateful for all the activity's that we got to do they were...
- Costeering
- Archery
- Outdoor living
- Search and rescue
- Kayaking
- High ropes
- Raft building
- Orienteering
This is the camp that we went to...
YMCA Wainui camp
Overall I really enjoyed the whole camp and I can't wait for the next camp.
